awesome explo-run with diana today....tall rickety bridges + me = scaredy cat. fun!

miles last tues of school....rae and i ventured to market and the library. we will be happy to have him along on these adventures, but sad for him as he will REALLY be missing school. he came home with all kinds of info on summer programs (library and VBS). I love pulling out the summer calendar and plugging in fun stuff....long days await.

we spent another 2.5 hours of our lives having fun at daniel's den :-) Then the grocery store. Then home for a john & bubble visit. i set up the sprinkler...and that was today's most awesome moment:

ah, yep.....there should be a pic in here.

tomorrow - a whole new blog site awaits!

delicious spring soup (velvety vegetable) from simply in season and french bread on the deck.

time to set-up a blogspot account. boooo livejournal, we were friends for so long. what happened?? :-)

Strolling Storybook

The highlight of today was an idea I got from Disney Family Fun magazine - a Strolling Storybook hike. The kids and I hung the pages to "Five Little Monkeys with Nothing to Do" along the trail at Silver Mines at 2PM. Rae did fall into the Pequea Creek (scary, but unharmed) and otherwise all was quiet and enjoyable before we arrived back at our car at 3PM. We hung out and waited for Michelle with Caelan and Demi and Megan with Atticus. The kids had a great time running down the trail, stopping to read the story at the different points along the walk to the bridge.

The boys enjoyed fishing in the creek with Miles homemade fishing pole and squirting Atticus' water gun. Everyone really enjoyed the walk out to the bridge. We had a lot of time to play in the water at the bridge and ran into our friend Amy, her husband Andrew, and kids Isabella and Luke. They had also enjoyed reading our story as they walked and 2 other people stopped to say how much fun they were having reading the story :-) The kids got into the usual hill rolling, rummy playing, and snacking, and of course some some snail finding. This was the most awesome ending to a Monday in the southern end. I am so thankful for good hiking momma friends...you ladies make my day! And great kids to share it with, of course!!

Wow - I am getting an error message that I cannot upload pics because I have exceeded the "disk space for my account". Might be time to switch from LiveJournal to Blogger. We'll see what happens tomorrow...................

Race Weekend...

...thoroughly pooped.

It began yesterday with Lancaster's premier city race - the Race vs Racism. We enjoyed walking around the Musser Park festival and playing on the playground before the kids did their 2 block race. Miles was very, very excited about this event and even did some warm up loops beforehand (seriously). They got to run with their friends Atticus, Caelan, and Demi and got lots of cool goodie prizes from Kelloggs. But the best part for us parents was seeing Miles run the whole way with his sis. She kept saying "wait for me Miles!" And he did......

Next up was cheering for all of our running friends in the adult race - 5K. Everyone did awesome and enjoyed a great day and event. We celebrated with a trip to market and, oh yes they did, playtime in the Binn's Park fountain. BRRRRRRRR!

We headed home to clean out a winter of dirty sand and sand toys and reload new sand for a summer of play in the big green box. Good times outdoors. I finished Rae's quilt and her and Miles snuggled on it in the grass together while I made reservations for our trip to NY (Lake Ontario camping) this summer.

Finally it was time to pick up Uncle Keith who had set out on a Conestoga Trail adventure at 10 that morning. We went and hiked and played at Kelly's Run for awhile before getting the call to pick him up at Pinnacle. We happily did so and then headed home for pasta dinner on the deck with Gina too! Great time - 12 hours outdoors....fresh, fresh air.

Today I went to Gettysburg with my pal Dee to run the 1st Inaguaral North South Marathon. It hurt. Running a big hill marathon 2 weeks after pushing it with all I was worth at Rhode Island hurt. I am very satisfied with my 3:34:30 and glad for the time spent with Dee. Each marathon finish is a reward in itself and I am happy for this one. To many more!

No I Didn't Watch the Royal Wedding...

...and I never wanted to be a princess. Not even a little bit.

Now that we got that out of the way :-) I did get up and sew. I am at the point of near completion of: Evan's mosaiced light switches, Rae's quilt, the book I am reading, AND the kids' hand knit dogs with blankets. If I stayed up all night tonight, ever project in my life could be wrapped up. But I'll take my time....

We went to the YMCA for Miles second to last art class. This was a really excellent class series and it isn't running again until October! He loved all of the classes and really became immersed in each week's project. Today he painted a frame for a picture that the teacher will frame and give to him next week as a gift. Then it was on to the best part of class - bubble blowing! The kids blew paint bubbles in a tray using straws while the moms held paper on the bubbles to capture the prints. They came out beautiful....kind of like tie dye! We are going to try it at home next week using lots of different colored paint trays. Well, when it was all done they heard the story of the very noisy cricket (Eric Carle) and then got to make some beautiful dragon flies. But Miles really wanted to keep making bubbles, so he drew what they had looked like with markers on a paper and did a great job! I got to make a dragon fly and we all had fun!!

After class, the kids and I swam and visited with Dee for about a half hour before driving to East Petersburg Park to meet with Jenn, Hannah, and Sarah for 3 hours of really fun fresh air. We had a great time playing on the playground, flying Miles & Rae's kites, riding bikes, and the main event of the day which Miles invented I'm proud to say :-) Grass clipping creations, covering each other in grass, grass houses, and chasing each other with handfuls of grass while laughing.

Home at last we joined Evan in yard working - planting a "baby tomato and a mommy tomato" plant (2 total) and working on our vegetable patch. Cucumbers and green peas are last but not least - hopefully next weekend! Miles has pretty much moved into the backyard and spends his at home time making variations of seaweed and dandelion soup. I am very thankful for a big backyard in the country for the kids to run about in!

Today was Really Cool - Again

Best Day Ever. Again.

Ran 7.5 (some trail) miles with Diana and then home for speech. Ugh. Miles didn't want to go, I didn't want to go, Rae didn't want to go ... but he gave it his all and did GREAT! Much better with adding the ending letters on words and remembering that important "is" in sentences. So he got a sticker, Spiderman to be exact. And Rae got a flower sticker, but really wanted Spiderman. There was a bit of a scene until, Miles said "Rae if it will make you feel better, you can have my sticker". And that is exactly when I decided to keep him. :-) Forever, and ever and ever, my best pal Miles.

On to the Herr's Chip Factory to meet up with Miles' 3rd? cousin Konnor and his mom Jeanne. I admit, I was a bit nervous about this. We went a year ago and it was a huge success. Rae was happily in a stroller and I just had to chase Miles, who actually was really well behaved on that day. And very interested. The 2nd trip NEVER goes so well with my two. But maybe now it does? Both have been begging to go back, and they definitely earned the visit today. They (and Konnor) were absolute angels - incredibly interested in the chip, pretzel, and popcorn making process....looking at each of the processes long after the group had moved on. Excellent listeners, model examples of preschoolers. I was very proud.

Taking the steps to the theater. It was impossible to get all 3 kids in one picture unfortunately....

Afterwards was nearly 3 hours at Nottingham Park right next door. We ate, played on the playground, had fun with Konnor's pirate toys that he brought along, played a lot of rounds of "Mr Fox", invented a new game called "touch a tree" (that became an instant hit), took a fitness trail walk with lots of chin ups, fortunately no splinters, and a 4 frog spotting (still Miles favorite part of the day), and rainbow scavenger hunting. I proved, as usual, that not taking my camera out leads to the best adventures....ah well, next time!

At home I got organized with a couple of different projects, ate chocolate with Miles, and then cut lettuce from our garden for our dinner salad, and cut flowers from our garden for a centerpiece:

I am very pleased to say, our caterpillars have cocooned and our blue bird box has a NEST!!

Miles lays out more twigs for the birds to add to their nest:

John and Bubble came for dinner which was lively, festive, and fun. Eating on the deck is always appreciated...wow, we waited a long time for this weather! YAY! Miles spent most of the evening making dandelion soup. My favorite part of the day was - I never needed to use my Mommy voice. Not once. Thank you kiddos!

2 Runs, 2 Libraries, 2 Playgrounds

...with a title that good, I had to type it up.

It all began with a new 7.5 with Diana, some trail miles even! At home the kids and I had fun using some of our many plastic eggs to roll in paint. Everyone got into it and we each created something:

Miles happily returned to school while Rae and I ventured to market and the library downtown. This is likely our last outing of the kind together this school year and we enjoyed it!

After picking up Miles we headed, with our picnic lunch to Daniles Den for a really sweet hour+ of play and eating (this was Rae's favorite part of the day!). It was an interesting mix at the park today as it was primarily dads and grandparents, so I didn't see any of my pals, but we did have fun!

Home where I made the Chicken Enchillada Casserole for tomorrow night's dinner. Then we headed on to phase 2 of today. Quarryville library, quarryville park, and that's right - the Quarryville fun run! Got in another 5K with Diana and remembered, pushing a stroller uphill into the wind does not equal fun. Regardless, when Evan asked how the run was, I still said "GREAT". I have yet to meet a run that I do not like. After was summertime dinner....outside, in my running clothes at a picnic table at Son's. Chocolate milkshake, hamburger, and fries. A long lazy summer stretches before us. Yay!

Here's today's most awesome moment:

Happy Monday!

It was a beautiful morning to get in 8.5 with Diana! We were sweating in our shorts and t-shirts and I knew it was going to be a great day! But before I write about today, here is Rae in her Easter dress yesterday!

Her favorite part of Easter was going to Nanny's work in her new dress!

Today we went to the YMCA for boot camp and then played on the YMCA outdoor playground for awhile. Next stop was the Strasburg library to exchange our movies and books for new ones and read together. On to Paradise Park where there was a really large gathering of Amish kids playing on the playground, baseball, and volleyball. Rae and Miles blended right in with their bare feet and blonde bowl cuts. They had a great 2 hours picnicing and playing!

After a brief bit at home, it was on to our Monday meet-up with Megan and Atticus at Shenks Ferry. There was barely room to park as the flowers are in their peak. And darn it if I didn't forget my camera as Atticus brought his marshmallow bow and arrow and the 3 kids had fun chasing the marshmallows as they flew through the air down the trail. It seems as though our geocache is quite popular despite being "illegal" for being too close to another one (?!?) Rules, rules!

Finally a shower and then a night out for pizza and a facial with Amy. I do feel rejuvenated and ready for tomorrow. Bring it on!

Easter Weekend

is off to a glorious start. Yesterday was art class at the YMCA with Miles and then a family trip to Cherry Hill for a really fun ride with the Orchard Bunny out to his cottage where eggs were found, flowers and candy were eaten, and all sorts of bunny games were played. Our friends Lindsey, with Sam, Caroline, and grandparents joined in the fun and it was a good, good time!

Today began with another soggy run - 10 miles with Joy and home for crafting. I started sewing together Rae's quilt and then Miles and I made a construction paper Easter basket for my mom. He got really into making paper eggs and decorating them to put in the basket. I was lazy, and just put in the JoAnn Fabric card I got her!

Rae and I had a little girl's morning out and went to market for more Easter treats. The past 2 days have been some good quality time alone with each kid as Miles and I art-ed and shopped together yesterday and rae and I market-ed today. I really enjoy this one-on-one time with my little pals!

At lunch time we headed down the River to Grandma's for Easter lunch with Severn, Claire, and George. Then it was a fun Easter basket treasure hunt with clues and teams and all sorts of fun. Each kids found drawing pads, paints, and markers. We all got to work immediately making some pics!

Miles was really excited to take Claire and George swimming so we dropped Daddy and Rae off at home for naps and went to the pool. It did feel really good playing in the water and Miles was so happy that it was totally worth it. Also a great sort of exercise on what was mainly a dreary sort of day.

Nana and Popaw were waiting for us at our home and they played Easter Bunny also. Rae got a new baby and Miles was further excited about his Toy Story legos. As soon as I finished eating my dinner he was ready to build and we completed the dump truck with Lotsa, Chunk, and Stretch. Very cool!

So tonight the "real" Easter Bunny is coming to our house (I think) and I CANNOT WAIT!! :-)

5 Hours of Vitamin D

...and still the kids are wired balls of energy! Spring, sprang, sprong!

Ran 7.5 with my pal Joy and then home for ... nothing. No school today, no obligations. Awesome. I think I'm ready for summer! The kids played and played and played and I did a bunch of fun stuff. We made a thank you card for Nikki at the Quarryville library for a wonderful Strawberry Shortcake story hour last night. Lots of little things like that. One of these days I'll upload some pictures again - seriously!

At 10, we headed to Silver Mines for a great hour of fresh air and biking, etc. Ran into Amy and kids which was lovely! Then on to Pine View for a picnic lunch at their tables. I had a little time after this, before picking up Gina, so I ended up taking the kids somewhere I have been meaning to take them since Christmas...the Comic Store. It was heaven for Miles - DuckTales, Fraggle Rock, Monsters Inc, Cars, Toy Story, and all kinds of his favorites! He picked out Toy Story and is thrilled with his find and Rae got Nemo. We use to go to the Comic Store as kids and it was really neat introducing it to my kids!

Picked up Gina at 12:30 for our favorite part of the day....2+ hours hiking, biking, playing tag, playing Duck, Duck, Goose, rolling down hills, eating M&Ms, and other frolic at County Park. So much healthy fresh air - lots of spinning and laughing.

Home for more outdoors, flower picking, dinner, friends....looking forward to the next couple of years!

snow

so the summer clothes are out, the winter clothes are packed away (with a few lone exceptions hanging on, in case), and everything we've outgrown is bagged for Goodwill. It's bound to snow several inches tonight. Sorry.

Ran 5 with "wrong turn Diana" :-) this a.m. hehehe. Home for the usual fun and NO SPEECH for Easter break. Hooray!! Hurrah!! Yippee!! So we went to the gym at 9:20 for a class. I am interested to hear what my kids say about me in 30 years. Will they remember me as a fun, kind Mom? Or will their memories be of me impatiently rolling my eyes as the move so. slowly. backwards really. then sideways. never forward. oh, a little ahead. now backwards again. Transitions are our downfall right now. The kids are so outstanding in the grocery store, the library, the gym, the park, the house...but when it comes time to move on to the next thing - WOW! What I think I need is a border collie or similar animal to herd them along. I am clearly not sufficient on my own. My chants of "please walk, please walk, please walk" are unheard. And the really most amazing part is both of them decide to make really important points in the middle of the street. Or in the path of an automatic door. Which is cool, but "making really important points" involves them not walking. And therefore almost getting crushed. Which I feel is a really important point, but who am I? Patience. And hopefully kids who remember the fun and not the chanting "please walk" lady.

So we made it back to our car and then on to a fabulous 2 hours at Daniels Den - SUNSHINE and fun!! Kids running around in barefeet (ah, look - they CAN run forward!) Good stuff. Groceries (wow we needed food). Then home for outdoor play. Today's perfect moment - swinging on the hammock with Rae while Miles ran around the yard flying his pig kite. Ahhhhhhhhhhhh.

Now - it's on to the Quarryville library for Strawberry Shortcake story hour. More on this later - it's going to be Berry Berry Fun!!
